More about Jones Glassworks

Phoenician sailors and early potters discovered the fused glass process over four thousand years ago in the Tigris and Euphrates river valleys of Mesopotamia. In the fusing or kiln-cast process glass is heated in kilns or ovens at high temperatures where it can be formed, textured, molded or otherwise manipulated. The piece is then slowly cooled, at a specific rate, to the ambient temperature. This annealing technique relieves stress in the glass and can take several hours to many days, depending on the size and thickness of the piece. Often the glass piece is put into a mold where it is fired a second time and slumped to acquire its shape and texture. Again, it has to be annealed to room temperature. This process is labor intensive but results in a creation that has unique strength and beauty.

Like the early artisans, Jones Glassworks has a boundless enthusiasm for the glass medium that stimulates an exciting atmosphere of discovery and design. Brother's Larry and Ron, and artist Bina have many years of experience in every facet of the kiln cast process. Their works are created utilizing fusing and slumping, glass casting, sandblasting, etching and various other techniques.

Jones Glassworks creates works in the areas of home furnishing accessories and gifts, architectural and interior design projects, and public art commissions. They design and produce bowls, platters, coasters, trivets, mirrors, vessels, tables, kiln cast panels, windows, walls, countertops, backsplashes, tiles, sinks and lighting. The group is committed to a level of quality and design that will allow our work to endure for a millennium or more.
